On 10 June,
'02, all recordings in the archive were replaced with
new copies. The new copies were recorded from my
Brunswick model 117 phonograph (ca. 1918), instead of
from a modern "Hi-Fi" record player, to
provide a more "authentic" sound. The
new audio files were compressed into Real Player 8
format as opposed to GS2 as used previously, to provide
better compatibility with newer software. There are now 21
recordings in the archive. |

This
website is devoted to phonograph recordings
made during the "acoustic
era", roughly the first quarter of the Twentieth Century.
All
of the recordings posted on this site have been rendered into
real audio streaming format from original records in my
collection. Click
on the real player button below to download a free real
player if you don't already have one. You'll need it to listen
to the audio clips!
This
site is still a work in progress! I plan on making
available all of the recordings from my personal
collection. The selection currently available is just a
test batch, recorded directly into real audio format with no
pre-processing to reduce surface noise, to be used in building
the site. As time permits, these will be replaced with
better quality clips.
